After listening to what Ken had to say I think that he is a realistic person. He had good facts about kids with ADHD and how its not really ADHD it is just more or less a phase kids go through which I agree. What he said did not really have anything to do with my genius hour page but it was mostly good information. He had a good point when he was talking about the different types of "teachers", some that actaully teach and others that are teach nothing. He was very fluent when he spoke, he also had some really good points!

Mr. Cowen started off by looking at different types of printers and found one that was reasonably priced and then he applied for a grant and he ended up getting the grant, which gave him enough money to buy the 3-D printer. He was very knowledgeable about the 3-D printer, you could tell he has done a lot of research on it. If I became more knowledgeable in all types of welding I could easily be able to get in front of the class and talk about it with facts to support what I say. To be prepared like Mr. Cowen I would need to be in a welding lab to explain different types of welding and to give examples of the different power sources.
The author describes genius to be a fun and relaxing thing to do. The author also says " Genius is not about scoring 1600 on the SATs, mastering fourteen languages at the age of seven, finishing Mensa exercises in record time, having an extraordinarily high I.Q., or even about being smart. " The authors perspective on genius compared to the actually definition are not even close because the author says you do not have to be smart to participate in genius. The shared strategies of a genius is, geniuses look at problems in many different ways, geniuses make their thoughts visible, geniuses produce, geniuses make novel combinations, geniuses force relationships, geniuses think in opposites, geniuses think metaphorically, and geniuses prepare themselves for a chance.
The first strategy, geniuses look at problems in many different ways encourages me the most because when I run into a problem that is the first thing that happens. Looking at a problems you are facing in many different ways is helpful because it lets you explore the problem more and you have a better chance of solving that problem. Being in high school is stressful enough especially with all the testing. There is so much pressure when taking big tests and projects. With genius hour I can finally relax a little bit and do something I like doing. Failing is not excepted in most schools but when you are working on your genius hour page it is alright it allows you to push yourself and take risks. Failure is also alright because the emphasis is learning from failure. In most schools, testing is everything so if you do not do good on big tests it effects you in the long run so if you can learn to fail and after you fail you get right back up and try again it will benefit you in the future.
What I would like to accomplish with my Genius Hour Project in the month of October, November, and December is to post information about the Tig, Mig, and Arc welding application. I will post information on projects you can do at home, using a welder that anyone can go out and buy and use. I am planningon posting instructional videos on welding in many different positions with different welding applications. Along with the information that will be available on welding, there will be information on fabrication. I will post information on the welding industry, like the different jobs that are available and salary different welders make. |
